Requirements
The WildSNAP app is currently only compatible with an Apple iPad® running iOS 10 and above. Every iPad ever made has both WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities. However, only the 3G/LTE models of the iPad can also connect to the cellular network, and they have a built-in GPS receiver (Apple chose not to include a GPS in the WiFi Only models). In the 3G/LTE models of the iPad, you will NOT need additional equipment to utilize the WildSNAP app.
If your iPad is not a 3G/LTE model, you will need to connect to a supported GPS unit. You can use any GPS unit that is compatible with your iPad and supports iOS 10 and above.
Recommended GPS units
(only required with non-3G/LTE iPads)
You will not need to install any drivers to use these GPS units with WildSNAP. You will just need to connect them to the iPad via Bluetooth. Please see their respective user manuals on how to connect them to your iPad.
Network Connection
You will be able to use the WildSNAP app without the use of WiFi / 3G / LTE in the field, but you will need a reliable GPS signal. You will need a WiFi or 3G/LTE connection to upload the data once you are finished. You will also need a WiFi connection to download the offline maps. See the user manual in the app for details.
Free Space
You will need approximately 2 GB of free space on your iPad. This will allow for the offline maps, as well as the data collected.
